The City of Doral, incorporated on June 24, 2003, occupies a land area of 15 square miles bordered on the west by the Ronald Reagan Turnpike, to the north by the Town of Medley, to the east by the Palmetto Expressway and to the South by 836 Expressway. Only one mile west of the Miami International Airport and seven miles from Downtown Miami, Doral location is ideal for international travel and business convenience. For a city of its size, Doral has a large number of shops, financial institutions and businesses, especially importers and exporters, primarily because of its proximity to the airport. The history of Doral began in the late 1950s when real estate pioneers Alfred and Doris Kaskel purchased 2,400 acres of swamp land for about $49,000 with the intention of building a golf course and a hotel. They opened a hotel and country club in 1962 and named it Doral, a combination of Alfred and Doris. The Doral Hotel and Country Club became the area’s hot spot and in the second year of operation, the Kaskels hosted the first Doral Open Invitational, one of Florida’s major PGA events. In February 2012, the Trump Organization purchased the Doral Resort & Spa for $150 million. The 800 acre purchase included four of the five golf courses including the iconic Blue Monster at Doral. In 2016, Doral completed a $250 million renovation project including club house, spa, hotel and golf course transformations of the Red Tiger, Golden Palm and Silver Fox, Trump National Doral Miami sets itself apart from all others by offering distinct and exciting Doral golf experiences all at one property. Today, the City of Doral attracts attention from its small businesses, large corporations, young families and retirees. It is recognized as the center of international trade and commerce. Doral has the highest percentage of Venezuelan residents in the US and a high Hispanic community of Cuban Americans, Colombians, Dominicans, Peruvians, Brazilians, Nicaraguans and Ecuadorian residents with a preference to live in gated communities. According to Forbes, Doral has been named #2 of America’s Top 25 towns to live well for its cultural amenities, pro-business environments, and highly educated workforce. The community has established world-class parks, cultural activities and provides a superior quality of life including some of the highest rated schools in Miami-Dade. A sophisticated new urban downtown center is taking shape, complete with several luxury condominium towers, townhouses, apartments, office buildings, shops, restaurants, a charter school, a park with a public art pavilion and a government center. Downtown Doral, a 120-acre mixed-use development begun in 2014, aims to transform the industrial, workday world of Doral into a real hometown with most facets to be completed in five years. This has sparked massive new residential and commercial building in Doral transforming it into one of the most desirable neighborhoods in South Florida.
